The Digital Marketing team at Gap Inc. manages global online acquisition marketing for the 5 Gap online brands (Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Piperlime, and Athleta).  The Senior Marketing Manager will develop, and manage direct response and customer acquisition channel marketing for our Japanese online businesses, Gap.co.jp and Bananarepublic.co.jp.
 
This is a high profile role (both within and outside of the company) that is a great opportunity for a qualified individual to make a measurable impact on the online operations of one of the largest specialty apparel retailers in the world.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Spearhead and implement all direct-response marketing channels for the Gap Inc Japan sites to generate profitable and new online customers.
  • Develop awareness-generating and brand-building strategies to produce qualified traffic to the Gap Inc Japan sites.
  • Lead and manage all agency partner relationships for the Japan online business.
  • Foster internal relationships with Product Management and IT in order to build an effective technical infrastructure to operate and expand the direct-response marketing channels in Japan. 
  • Manage search marketing vendor to optimize our paid search programs.  Provide vendor ongoing strategic and tactical direction based on the goals of each brand
  • Partner with and manage affiliate marketing vendors in the US and Japan to continue to grow and expand our affiliate business in Japan.
  • Manage organic search optimization efforts across all brands, interfacing with internal resources and third party vendors to ensure best practices implemented across all properties.
  • Manage online display advertising including brand awareness building and retargeting efforts across all brands in Japan. Supervise 3rd party media planning agencies ensuring business objectives are met and brand aesthetics align.
  • Monitor industry trends, testing, adapting and optimizing Affiliate/SEM/SEO/Display strategy using measurable approach.
  • Act as key liaison between Digital Marketing and the Gap Inc Direct Japan online marketing teams as it relates to direct-response online marketing programs.
  • Manage delivery of regular performance reports for all Digital Marketing programs in Japan, including weekly dashboard and quarterly hind-sights, identifying areas of opportunity and messaging out key wins.
  • Manage process for tracking all SEM programs within our reporting tools.  Establish benchmarks and metrics that consistently evaluate efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Work with internal and external teams to manage creative briefing and trafficking of all assets for our marketing programs, i.e. display banners, keywords, copy, affiliate creative, etc.
  • Promotion calendar management. Ensuring external business partners and agencies are informed of all upcoming promotions and events to drive traffic and sales to the Japanese websites.
  • Develop relationships and manage regular calls with outside agency partners, third party staffing vendors and search engines and maintain and develop a segment leading perspective on the online marketing space in Japan.
  • Partner with the Japan site marketing and store marketing team to ensure all marketing programs are being supported appropriately,
  • Continually innovate best practices and source, test, and evaluate potential new sources of high quality traffic.

 

 
Qualifications
 
  • 3-5 years of search experience, preferably at an agency or online retailer.
  • 3-5 years of experience managing affiliates.
  • 4+ years of business experience, preferably in online marketing.
  • Fluency/Knowledge of the Japanese language preferred.
  • Experience in Japanese business culture preferred.
  • Must be willing and able to travel between US and Japan frequently (20% of time). 
  • Organized, detail-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deal with change with a passion for innovation and creative problem solving. Technical proficiency in common online technologies, including tracking and analytics platforms.  Ability to quickly learn and become fluent in new technologies,
  • Working business knowledge of Javascript, tracking pixels, modern web browsers, XML data feeds, partner tracking and data exchange.
  • Strong reporting and analysis skills.  Experience with Omniture or other site analytics software strongly preferred.
  • Strong industry knowledge of the affiliate, display, search and SEO space.  Ability to develop and defend a POV on any topic.  Ideally has a rolodex of contacts both vendor and client side.
  • Ease communicating and selling vision/ideas to high level management, both internally and externally.
  • Ease negotiating with partners, externally and internally, and ability to read and comment on vendor agreements.
  • Willingness to work in a fun, entrepreneurial atmosphere within the stable environment of the largest specialty apparel retailer in the United States.
  • Experience in International online marketing preferred.
