At Staples we have 100’s of terabytes of data throughout our global company.  Come help us unlock the information within this data.  As part of the Finance organization, the Business Systems team works closely with functional business users to identify and deliver reporting and analytics to help make data analysis faster and easier, enabling associates at every level to make more informed decisions on the internal operations of the company.  The team utilizes a variety of information management tools to develop and deploy data, reporting, analysis, and integration services to corporate and field customers. 

Location: Primary - Broomfild, CO.

                Secondary- Framingham, MA.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Gain knowledge of the multitude of databases utilized by the organization, from both a business and technical perspective
  • Utilize a variety of analytical and application development tools, along with their business and technical skills, to deliver and support tools enterprise-wide
  • Problem solve in a fast-moving and highly diverse environment
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring accuracy and timeliness are not compromised
  • Thrive on delivering applications and analysis quickly, accurately, and always exceeding customer expectations

New Business Intelligence Solutions

  • Design, develop, implement and maintain new reporting functionality and analytic applications across multiple business units
  • Serve the Business Systems group as a lead to develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and scorecards that track key merchant, partner, and business metrics responsible from different data sources/business units using Enterprise BI tools such as MicroStrategy, Toad, VBA and Microsoft Access
  • Assist our Business Partners to develop, maintain and support reports, dashboards, and scorecards using self-service BI tools such as Tableau, Qlikview, Spotfire, etc. 
  • Capture and translate requirements, through a variety of interviewing, analysis and facilitation techniques, to create coherent report design documents leading to successful business intelligence solutions
  • Work with business analysts and business users to achieve an understanding of their data use in order to develop reporting and analysis to meet their needs on a number of performance metrics (financial analysis, customer behavior and spending patterns and company system integration projects)
  • Act as a liaison between business owners and technical associates within the company to ensure the data collected and processed is both actionable and relevant to business needs
  • Own complete projects, which include understanding the business process that the application supports all the way through to roll-out and support.  Tools developed could have as few as one user and as many as 2000
  • Be an expert in the programming systems used.  Each application could source from multiple sources, including Oracle databases, SQL Server, MS Access, DB2, Excel, flat files, and CSV.  The integration of all of this data while applying the appropriate business logic is the great value that will be provided to the company.

Custom Analysis, Reporting, and Queries

  • Enhance and maintain existing reports and analytical applications
  • Create and enhance Mobile Dashboard applications that balance user interface design, security considerations, and data presentations that will help drive productivity and growth
  • Function as a power user of our business intelligence reporting platform that includes providing third tier level tool and data model support and assisting/training business users in various data analyses techniques and report generation.

Quality Control and Continuous Process Improvement

  • Develop and maintain repeatable, systemic processes
  • Look for ways to make internal team processes more efficient
  • Work with business partners, identifying areas where we can use technology to make processes more efficient 
 
Qualifications
 

Basic Qualification:

  • Bachelor's Degree or minimum 8 years of relevant work experience
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with Microsoft Suite, SQL, BI Tools (either with MicroStrategy, Cognos, Business Objects, Hyperion, MS Access, Brio)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with relational databases, OLAP and dashboards

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree a plus but not required
  • Knowledge of analytic approaches and methods (reporting; modeling; optimization)
  • Ability to translate business processes into technical solution
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Should be able to communicate fluently and build relationships with business users, technical personnel and management across the organization
  • Enthusiasm for making a positive impact to the company
