Corporate Finance is seeking a highly-motivated student currently attending a top MBA program for placement as a Summer Associate within Corporate Development – Mergers & Acquisitions, Treasury or International Finance. Candidates must have strong financial, analytical, communication and teamwork skills. Experience in the insurance or financial services industry is helpful, but not required. Ideal candidates should have knowledge / interest in international markets. Summer associates will be considered for a full time position.

Corporate Development:

The Corporate M&A / Corporate Development group sources and executes all of Prudential’s acquisitions and divestitures, worldwide.  The group has consummated over 80 deals with over $12 billion of aggregate value.  Recent deals include acquisitions of Hartford Life Insurance in the US and Star Life and Edison Life companies in Japan.  Cross border transactions represent a significant portion of the group’s deal flow.  The group also leads strategic projects for the executive team.  Team members have the opportunity to work closely with Prudential’s C-level executives and Senior Business Leaders across the global organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Source acquisition targets, develop investment thesis and present findings to Senior Management
  • Create operating and valuation models; perform returns analysis
  • Participate in a cross-functional due diligence team; and in on-site diligence of potential acquisitions
  • Work with counsel and functional experts to structure transaction
  • Negotiate deal terms and draft term sheets
  • Evaluate entry into new international markets
  • Conduct strategic analysis and special projects for senior management

Treasury:

Prudential’s Treasury group has broad responsibilities over many aspects of Corporate Finance including:

  • Capital management & planning
  • Issuance of debt, equity and hybrid securities
  • Interest and currency risk management
  • Securitization activities and M&A support

Team members have the opportunity to work closely with Prudential’s C-level executives and Senior Finance leaders across the global organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with Investment Banks to execute capital markets transactions
  • Collaborate on assessment of funding alternatives for acquisitions
  • Analyze impact of business initiatives and M&A on Pru’s earnings, credit ratios, interest and currency risk profile
  • Structure optimal capital management alternatives for business units
  • Plan and forecast operating cash flows to and from business units
  • Create presentations to Board, Senior Management and rating agencies

International Finance:

The International Finance group supports Prudential’s International Businesses currently with operations that span ten countries in Asia, South America and Europe. Prudential’s International Businesses have over eleven million clients, $2 billion in annual sales, over $185 billion in total assets, and represent over 40% of Prudential’s operating earnings.  Recent initiatives include:

  • In Japan, where Prudential currently operates an industry leading insurance operation, expansion initiatives involving new channels of distribution
  • New product and distribution plans in Korea and Taiwan
  • A start up asset management business in India
  • Acceleration of growth of a successful Brazilian insurance operation
  • Insurance joint ventures in India and China
  • New market entry assessments in Southeast Asia and Latin America

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present analysis to support business initiatives and growth opportunities, including acquisitions
  • Work with Senior Management to plan and forecast financial results, operating cash flow, and capital requirements
  • Analyze impact of various interest rate and exchange rate scenarios on results and recommend risk management strategies
  • Conduct strategic analysis and special projects for Senior Management
  • Evaluate entry into new markets
  • Support due diligence for potential acquisitions
