Operations is one of three foundational functions at Amgen with a mission to manufacture and deliver safe and effective medicine to patients around the world. The organization is spread across eight sites and divided into five functions: Global Supply Chain, Process Development, Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering.  

Amgen Operations Leadership Program is currently seeking highly motivated and talented individuals who will lead initiatives, strategic analysis and business case development on projects across the five Operations functions. Along with key business partners and functional groups, they will focus on making effective recommendations to the organization’s senior leadership.  

With the support of his/her hiring manager, the intern will develop a project charter to map out objectives, identify key stakeholders, timelines, and deliverables. Leveraging his/her analytical, leadership, and communication skills, the intern will work cross-functionally to identify the problem, measure the current state, develop recommendations through qualitative and quantitative analysis, and present the findings through various forums including an intern-wide poster session and a final readout to executive management.  

In conjunction with the project work, interns will have the opportunity for professional development through training sessions, the Operations Executive Speaker Series, a week long cross-functional case study, one-on-one mentoring, and various networking events. Interns will also be able to interact with other interns at Amgen-sponsored social events.  

Example projects from previous internships:  
• Asia Supply Chain – Developed a China entry strategy by performing due diligence on Chinese vendors and analyzing various site selection criteria such as government, human capital, and tax structure.  
• Alliance Management – Developed an international partnership launch framework for managing commercial product launch in emerging markets with Amgen Partners
• Operations Strategic Planning – Modeled capacity requirements for Amgen’s network considering the recent acquisition of Amgen Dun Laoghaire in Ireland.  
• Risk Management – Evaluated counterfeit landscape in emerging markets and recommended options for Amgen to enhance product protection.  
• Manufacturing of the Future – Investigated manufacturing quality issues across the Amgen network to determine and prioritize key risks to mitigate for operational readiness at Amgen’s new Singapore site.
Basic Qualifications Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:  

18 years or older  

Graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent  

Completion as a first year graduate student and currently enrolled in a Master of Business Administration (MBA) OR a Master of Bioscience (MBS) program from an accredited college or university  

Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment  

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Preferred Qualifications Pursuing MBA/MBS with emphasis in Business, Management, Operations, or Engineering  

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Life Science, or Business  

Good business acumen, high-level strategic thinking and strong analytical skills  

Excellent interpersonal and networking skills; team player; strong oral and written communication skills  

Ability to conduct research; ability to manage multiple projects consecutively  

Demonstrated ability to bring structure to complex problems, pragmatic scoping and problem solving approach, ability to objectively evaluate options/trade-offs and develop executive management-level recommendations  

Previous industry or project management experience  

Knowledge and understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and regulatory policies
